Product Characteristics: The 3G8 monoclonal antibody reacts with the 50-65kD transmembrane form of human CD16 (FCGR3A). CD16 is the low affinity IgG receptor III and is expressed on NK cells and macrophages. CD16 participates in signal transduction and mediates antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC) by natural killer (NK) cells. The second form of CD16 (FCGR3B) is a glycosyl-phosphatidylinositol (GPI) linked molecule expressed exclusively on neutrophils.
Target Information: The protein encoded by this gene is a low affinity receptor for the Fc region of gamma immunoglobulins (IgG). The encoded protein acts as a monomer and can bind either monomeric or aggregated IgG. This gene may function to capture immune complexes in the peripheral circulation. Several transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. A highly-similar gene encoding a related protein is also found on chromosome 1. [provided by RefSeq, Aug 2012]
